Past Due

Back in October Nick and I traveled to Sierra Vista to visit with the Crooks family. Nick, Marc, Aunt Chi Chi (Lisa) and I went to Garden Canyon to check out some massive boulders that had fallen from the top of the mountains during a recent storm. The trail was closed off to vehicles, so we hopped over the gate and hiked the rest of the way.

The storms were still going on our way in to Sierra Vista, but somehow the house on Mockingbird didn't get a drop of rain!
Despite the storms at the beginning of our trip, the weather was perfect on Saturday - about 70 degrees and breezy.

On our quest to find the boulders, we decided to stop and take several pictures of our excellent scenery.

Finally, we reached the boulders.
We all had to have a moment to pose with the biggest one.

The boulders  may not seem too menacing, but check out the path of destruction left by just one boulder along side of the mountain in the picture above.

On our way home, we stopped off the side of the trail to take one last picture of all these pretty yellow flowers. The fields were covered with them.

A few weeks later Aunt Lisa went back with her husband Palle in order for him to get a glimpse of the boulders too. After jumping the gate, checking out the rocks, and walking back, they were stopped by the military police and told that they were violating a federal trespassing law. Their jeep was searched and thankfully they were let go with a warning. I'm sure glad that we didn't get caught on our excursion!
